Connected TVs will be the catalyst for apps

As the summer is pretty much over in Finland, for me at least, it is time to look at what happened in the summer and will in the autumn.

There were few interesting news bits that took my attention:
 - Connected TVs to overtake games consoles this year
 - Over 60% of Connected TV Households Use TV Apps at Least Once per Week

For me it seems that the buzz around Connected TVs is somewhat justified. I've been fearing that the work we've done in this area will take long time to capitalize, but this type of news seem to suggest I have been wrong - hurrah!

My question at the moment is that how to convince the big advertisers, content owners and brands that this is a good media to start play with. I guess, it is just a question of education and good personal relationships, of which the first one we've been doing for the last 10 years. Personal relationships is another story... ;)

Personally I believe (at least now) that the Connected TV market will act as a catalyst for other value added services as consumers start demanding the same level (at least) of services from operators and broadcasters, who will have to react. As a consumer, I am paying every month for my Pay-TV subscription and if I start getting the same (or even better) VOD, catch-up and applications trough a 400EUR TV, why would I continue to pay the premium to the operator?

As the IBC approaches in September (yes, I will be there) I can't wait to meet the operators and broadcasters and ask them the same question "How will you tackle the Connected TV portals and services?". Be prepared! :)
